MEM – MEST and UP signs a Memorandum of Understanding

Prishtina, 15 October 2009 – Ministry of Energy and Mining, Justina Shiroka-Pula, Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Enver Hoxhaj signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rector of the University of Prishtina, Mujë Rugova on the distribution of 25 scholarships for students in the area of energy and mining.

Minister Pula said that MEM support comes from good will for mutual cooperation between Government Institutions and the University of Prishtina, for a quality education of superior staff in energy and mining.

“Taking into consideration the fact that Kosovo development is based on its natural resources in function of the overall developed of the country, and the need for Kosovo to be active member in the integration processes in the future regional energy market, pursuant to the Energy Community Treaty, MEM has deemed appropriate to support students in energy and mining”, said Minister Pula.

According to her, this support shall have an impact in increasing the interest for studies, having due regard to new professional staff members.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Enver Hoxhaj, said that the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM) has continuously been close to students, as Minister Pula is part of the academic staff in the University of Prishtina.

Hoxhaj said that this is not the first project of MEM in support to the UP, and he mentioned the investments of this ministry in the installation of solar panels for the provision of hot sanitary water in the Student’s Center.

UP Rector, Mujë Rugova, after signing the memorandum, thanked MEM and hoped that students of these areas will use this support to develop their scientific capacities.

“Students should work more and justify the support of the Government, so that their scholarships continue during their entire studies”, said Rugova.

The funds for this program are created with equal participation of the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), for students registered in the Technical Faculty of the University of Prishtina.
 
The student fund shall be distributed in the form of 25 scholarships for each academic year, 2009/10, 2010/11, and 2011/12. Scholarship monthly ceiling is 150 EURO per student and is provided each calendar month, respectively in 12 installments.
