MEM Presents the Progress in Energy to the European Commission
Prishtina, 5 June 2009 – Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM), KOSTT, ERO and KEK have presented today, before the European Commission (EC), the progress achieved in the energy sector in the period September 2008 – March 2009.
On this occasion, MEM has presented the achievements in harmonizing domestic legislation with the EU Acquis, the progress in meeting the obligations of the Energy Community Treaty, etc. The meeting was also used to present the achievements in the “New Kosova” Power-Plant Project, and “Zhur” Hydropower Plant.
Minister of Energy and Mining (MEM), Justina Shiroka Pula, said that during this period, MEM has worked hard in order to achieve its objectives, to obtain tangible results. “I consider that during the period in question, a notable and measurable progress has been made. Particular progress was noted in the European Integration sector, with regard to the Action Plan for European Partnership and in the Energy Community Treaty”, said Minister Pula.
In addition, she assured the representatives of the European Commission that the Kosovo Government has placed particular attention and priority to the energy sector, taking into consideration that energy shall be one of the catalysts for economic development.
The Action Plan for European Partnership process was also discussed in the meeting.
On the other side, representative of the European Commission, Nicholas Cenderowicz, praised the achievements and the progress noted in the energy sector, and encouraged the key players of this sector to continue the work, in order to achieve European standards.
