Donors promise to continue their support for the private sector

Prishtina, 07 June 2013 – The Minister of Economic Development, Fadil Ismajli, ensured all donors that the Government of Kosovo in general and the Ministry of Economic Development in specific will remain maximally engaged in the improvement of the energy supply situation, treatment of wastewater and improved performance of water-supply companies.

Minister Ismajli made these comments during a meeting held today with water sector donors, attended by Pierre Weber, Ambassador of Luxembourg in Prishtina, Christoph Lang, Deputy-Head of the Swiss Cooperation Office, Arbërore Riza from JICA, Baton Begolli from Office of Prime Minister’s Task Force on Waters, and MED officials.

Minister Ismajli used the occasion to thank the donors for their contribution and called on them to continue to support the improvement of the water sector in Kosovo, while reemphasizing the commitment of the Government to improve services to its citizens.

During this meeting, representatives of the abovementioned agencies have reemphasized that they will continue to support the water sector in Kosovo, through common projects and technical assistance for the improvement of water supply and wastewater treatment.

Donors have also expressed their support to regionalization of Regional Water-Supply Companies.

Since 1999, the water supply and wastewater treatment sectors were subject to investments amounting to around 180 million euro, including donations by the Swiss Government, Government of Luxembourg, European Commission, KfW, USAID, and co-funding by the Government of Kosovo.
