The First Conference of Kosovo Research and Education Network Users
Prishtina, 16.05.2023 – The First Conference of Kosovo Research and Education Network (KREN) Users is being held in the premises of the University of Prishtina, which will serve the community for research, education and provide KREN users with opportunities for networking, information and development.
The key goal of this Conference is, inter alia, promoting and developing the research and education community in Kosovo, which goal has been made possible owing to great joint efforts by the Ministry of Economy, specifically the Kosovo Digital Economy (KODE) Project, KREN and the World Bank.
KREN managed to centralize the community of students, researchers and academic staff in Kosovo, connecting Kosovo with the Pan-European Association, GÉANT.
The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, stated that the KREN network, through the extension of fixed infrastructure, is one of the contributors to developments in education, and through its effective operation, we aim to promote innovation and develop an infrastructure with advanced services for higher education institutions and secondary and primary schools in the near future; as well as to strengthen universities in Kosovo in terms of providing technological education and research opportunities.
She finally said that jointly with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, they are working to ensure broadband Internet access and the installation of internal networks for secondary and primary schools in Kosovo, and the interconnection of each of them to KREN.
Meanwhile, the KREN’s community services include:
- Access to infrastructure as a service – data centre – for space related to the use of virtual machines;
- Various processing resources needed by professors and researchers;
- Access to the Moodle platform;
- Dedicated high-speed and secure Internet access outside and inside the university campuses;
- Data storage;
- Office 365 license and alike.
The Conference was attended by the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Taulant Kelmendi, the World Bank Manager for Kosovo, Massimiliano Paolucci, the Rector of the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”, Qerim Qerimi, and representatives of other local and regional educational and scientific institutions.
