PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Prishtina, 11.03.2026 The Ministry of Economy reacts to the biased reporting published on 11.03.2026 by the Newspaper “Nacionale” regarding the allegations of the rejection of the request for the donation of a mineral/crystal by the National Museum of Mines and Minerals “Trepça”.

The Ministry of Economy emphasizes that the request from the Office of the President for the donation of the crystal was received on 16 February 2026, respectively one day before the official trip of the President of the Republic of Kosovo. The responsible officials have urgently treated the request of the Office of the President, but due to the legal and administrative procedure, the time has been insufficient to fulfill the request.

Based on the relevant legislation, minerals/crystals may be donated or exchanged with homologous institutions of other countries, when this serves national interests and when their values are equivalent. Minerals/crystals that may be donated or exchanged are determined by the Professional Commission, which is established by decision of the Executive Director of the Geological Service of Kosovo.

The donation or exchange can only be carried out with a final decision, after the professional commission has provided the recommendation. Hence, the timeframe for completing this process was extremely short.

The allegations that link this issue to political developments or relations between institutions are one-sided media interpretations and do not reflect the facts, for which the newspaper “Nacionale” has not requested an official position from the Ministry of Economy.

The Ministry of Economy, according to its legal competences, remains committed to handling every request in full compliance with the relevant legislation, rules for the management of public assets, and principle of transparency.
