Prime Minister Kurti and Minister Rizvanolli inaugurate energy efficiency improvements in social housing buildings in Mitrovica
Mitrovica, 29.08.2025 – The Caretaker Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the Caretaker Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, attended the inauguration of two social housing buildings in the neighbourhoods of Shipol and Desi of Mitrovica, where investments were made to improve energy efficiency.
The inauguration was also attended by the representative of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Alessandro Bianciardi, the Deputy Mayor of Mitrovica, Arian Tahiri and the Director of Operations of the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, Petrit Ahmeti.
Through an investment of €381,622, the buildings were upgraded with roof and facade insulation, replacement of outdated doors and windows, installation of high-efficiency heating systems, introduction of intercom systems, and the implementation of enhanced fire safety measures.
The two social housing buildings, constructed in 2003 and 2005 respectively, provide shelter for 39 families, comprising a total of 173 residents, and for many years had remained without adequate insulation, energy-efficient windows or proper heating systems.
In Shipol, a social housing building constructed in 2003 will enhance the living conditions of 18 families, including 4 households headed by women. Meanwhile, in Desi, the 2005 building will serve 21 families, 4 of which are also headed by women.
This project is part of a larger investment exceeding €6 million, aimed at renovating 25 social housing buildings across Kosovo. The project was implemented by the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund, with financial support consisting of 90% funding from the European Union and 10% municipal contribution.
In addition to social housing buildings, 9 public facilities in Mitrovica have also been renovated, including:
4 schools,
one kindergarten,
2 outpatient clinics in Bajgora and Bare,
as well as the Cultural Center.
These renovations significantly improve the living conditions, education and healthcare services for thousands of citizens.
