Ministry of Economy holds informative session on the Digital Europe Programme

Prishtina, 27.05.2024 – The Ministry of Economy held an informative session on the Digital Europe Programme, attended by the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, Arben Papadhopulli from the European Union Technical Assistance, as well as representatives from businesses, NGOs, and other interested stakeholders.

The Digital Europe Programme is a European Union initiative aimed at supporting the digital transformation of Europe by providing financial and technical assistance for projects in technology, infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

Minister Rizvanolli highlighted that, as a result of efforts of the Ministry of Economy, the Republic of Kosovo is now equal with all other EU countries as part of this significant program and added that as Government we working to create the best infrastructure and work environment for the ICT sector to make Kosovo a digitized and modern country with an advanced economy by 2030.

She mentioned the Emerging Europe’s Future of IT Report, where Kosovo ranks first for talent, measured by the number of students in IT-related fields in higher education per 100,000 citizens, second in infrastructure, and first in the region for competitiveness (11th overall). She also noted that over 70% of ICT companies export their services, making Kosovo an attractive destination for the global information technology industry.

While Arben Papadhopulli from the European Union Technical Assistance informed the attendees about the application and registration procedures for the calls that businesses and NGOs are interested in applying for and contributing to.

The program focuses on four areas, all of which align with the Government’s goals for digitalization and the ICT sector:

  • High Performance Computing
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Advanced digital skills
  • Deployment and Best Use of Digital Capacities and Interoperability

The Digital Europe Programme, which has been ratified by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, allows not only private businesses and NGOs but also institutions of the Republic of Kosovo to have equal access to funds amounting to 7.5 billion euros alongside peers from over 26 European and regional countries.
