Ministry of Economy begins first pilot phase of electronic identity (eID) provision

Prishtina, 18/11/2025 – The first pilot phase of the official process for electronic identity (eID) provision has begun. This marks an important step within the framework of the Kosovo eID project, funded by the European Union through the EU4Innovation program, which aims to improve public services and create new opportunities for citizens and institutions in Kosovo.

The Ministry of Economy, as the creator and coordinator of the implementation of the eID system in Kosovo, on Friday successfully completed the process of registration and obtaining the eID. This is a key step towards providing secure and efficient digital services to citizens and institutions in the country.

The technical platform has been fully finalized, including the citizen registration system, the official “Kosova e-Wallet” application, and the electronic signature module.

The first information session held with the staff of the Ministry of Economy discussed the use of the “Kosova e-Wallet” application, which is now available on Android and iOS devices, through which citizens will be able to perform electronic authentication, use electronic signatures and electronic seals for signing, or sealing, electronic documents.

Benefits of eID:

  • Security and reliability: The eID system is fully compliant with the standards of the EU eIDAS Regulation and the provisions of Law No. 08/L-022 on Electronic Identification and Trust Services in Electronic Transactions.
  • Online public services: Citizens will be able to identify themselves securely in online environments, without the need for physical presence, and sign documents electronically.
  • Acceleration of processes: Kosovo is building the foundations for a modern administration and digital governance, enabling faster and more efficient processes for citizens and institutions.
  • Digital inclusion: This initiative will create more favorable conditions for economic development and digital inclusion of every citizen.

In the coming days, the process of equipping state administration officials with electronic IDs will continue, where after the pilot phase is completed the process of obtaining eIDs will be extended throughout the country and will become accessible to all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.

This is just one of the many steps that the Ministry of Economy is taking to modernize the administration and provide better and more secure services to our citizens.
