Minister Rizvanolli visited Thermal Power Plant “Kosova A”

Prishtina, 20.09.2022 – The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, visited Thermal Power Plant “Kosova A” of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK).

During the visit, Minister Rizvanolli was hosted by the management and the Board of KEK, who informed her about the situation the Energy Corporation of Kosovo is facing and the work they are doing to provide as much electricity generation as possible during the energy crisis.

Minister Rizvanolli visited the generation units of the TPP “Kosova A”, where she thanked the workers for the work and sacrifice they are making, while affirming that she was pleasantly surprised by the news that Unit A3 has returned into operation thanks to the work of the team of employees and announced that Unit A4 is expected to return into operation in early October.

Minister Rizvanolli talked about the measures taken by the Government to save electricity in government institutions and publicly owned enterprises, and called on citizens and businesses to save electricity as much as possible, while announcing that among the measures that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will take will also be the banning of the export of pellets and other wood-based fuels.

“As Government, we will also take other steps concerning the energy crisis. A decision that is expected to be taken today after a few hours in the meeting of the Government is the ban on the export of pellets and other wood-based fuels. As we have analyzed the situation in the market and have seen that there is an increase in prices that is not justified by the increase in the cost of production, and on the other side we have a lack of pellets in the market compared to previous years and compared to the need”, she said and announced that the Ministry of Economy will announce a subsidy scheme in the coming days and such measures will make the winter easier and more affordable.

Speaking about the energy supply during the coming winter, Minister Rizvanolli said that Europe is going through an unprecedented energy crisis, which has become even more difficult due to the war in Ukraine, and we as a state depend on several factors, one of them being generation by KEK, and the energy security that KEK provides for us, but also from the electricity import prices.
