Minister Rizvanolli speaks on empowering women in the energy sector in Kosovo
Prishtina, 15.10.2024 – The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, participated in the Energy for Equality activity organized by MCC/MCA Kosovo, which aims to empower women in the energy sector in Kosovo.
The Energy for Equality activity is carried out within the framework of the Equitable Transition Acceleration (JETA) Project which aims to increase women’s representation in the energy sector and similar industries by promoting gender-equitable practices within companies, supporting networking, mentoring, and training opportunities for women, enhancing educational opportunities, and providing technical assistance and small grants to employers in the energy and related sectors.
Regarding the representation of women in key leadership positions, Minister Rizvanolli emphasized that Kosovo is fortunate to have many women and girls who serve as role models for young girls. She also noted that through active labor market policies, support for women-led businesses, scholarships, and various affirmative measures, support for women has been placed at the core of governmental policies and objectives.
“The energy sector, which has traditionally been male-dominated, has undergone significant changes in recent decades, however, despite progress and technological advancements, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership roles and other technical positions. This is not only an injustice but also a limitation for the sector itself and the economy, as it restricts the full potential and innovation of one of the most important sectors of the economy,” said Rizvanolli.
Concerning the increase in women’s participation in the energy sector, Minister Rizvanolli highlighted that while there are many successful women, including highly skilled engineers in the sector, the fact remains that representation is low, particularly in leadership positions, which is why efforts to make changes have begun.
Minister Rizvanolli added that the Energy for Equality Project is also an example of how, specifically in the energy sector and in professions related to the energy sector, the employment and skills of women will be promoted.
In conclusion, Minister Rizvanolli stated that the energy sector and the economy can only be successful and fulfill their full potential when everyone has the opportunity to participate and actively contribute to the economy.
