Minister Rizvanolli requests ERO to give priority treatment to network losses

Prishtina, 08.04.2025 – The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, received representatives of the Energy Regulatory Office in a consultative meeting to discuss the process of reviewing electricity tariffs for 2025.

Minister Rizvanolli reiterated the written comments submitted to ERO, including: (i) that consumers with consumption below 800 kWh per month not be affected by the increase, meaning that around 60% of families would not be affected at all; and (ii) for others, namely around 35% who are affected only during some winter months and 5% who regularly exceed this consumption, that the increase be as minimal as possible without jeopardizing supply, with additional consumption bands above 800 kWh to specifically protect families consuming less.

The Minister requested additional information on some of the factors that led to the increase in supply costs, such as the price of transmission capacities, and requested that these issues be addressed in detail by ERO and, if it is found that certain costs could have been avoided, that they not be passed on to consumers but rather borne by the operators.

The Minister also requested that ERO address with the utmost seriousness and in a proactive manner the issue of reducing losses in the distribution network, including an audit of the investments made so far, and the necessity for rapidly reducing technical losses and eliminating commercial losses.

Finally, the Minister thanked ERO for the clarifications provided and deemed the holding of consultative meetings with institutions and other stakeholders a good practice. At the same time, the Minister suggested that ERO, in parallel with these meetings, also intensify public communication, in the interest of increasing institutional transparency in decision-making and better understanding of processes and decisions by citizens.
