Minister Rizvanolli Concludes Visit to Washington, D.C. with Meetings at the Department of Energy and Department of State
Washington, D.C., February 28, 2026 – The Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Artane Rizvanolli, concluded her visit to Washington, D.C. with meetings at the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of State, where economic cooperation between the two countries and opportunities to deepen it were discussed, particularly in the field of coal gasification and the mining sector.
In a meeting with the Acting Assistant Secretary for the Office of International Affairs at the Department of Energy, Mr. Tommy Joyce, concrete opportunities for intergovernmental cooperation and collaboration with American companies were discussed, taking into account shared objectives and ongoing projects in Kosovo.
The meeting also addressed coal gasification technology, an area in which the U.S. Department of Energy and American companies have extensive proven experience and results.
Minister Rizvanolli expressed support for the efforts that the United States Government is undertaking to help Europe gain independence from Russian gas and emphasized that, although Kosovo lacks gas infrastructure, it is nonetheless affected by developments in the region and Europe through their impact on import prices. Therefore, the energy security of every European state also means greater security for Kosovo.
In the meeting with the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the Department of State, Mr. Daniel Lawton, the excellent cooperation between the two countries, based on shared principles and values, was discussed, as well as the potential for further deepening cooperation in strategically important sectors such as energy and mining.
Minister Rizvanolli expressed her gratitude for the support and cooperation to date, including the decision of President Trump’s administration to continue the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact Program for Kosovo. The Minister emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will maintain a special focus on the mining sector during this mandate, and called for support and the deepening of cooperation in this field alongside the excellent collaboration in the energy sector.
