Prishtina, 18 December 2025 – The Republic of Kosovo has taken over the Presidency of the Energy Community Council of Ministers during the 24^th meeting of this Council, placing itself at the centre of regional decision-making process on energy policies.

On this occasion, the acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, assessed the taking over of the presidency as an important institutional responsibility and an opportunity to advance the reform agenda within the Energy Community. She emphasized that, as of 2026, Kosovo will exercise political leadership of the decision-making process in this international forum.

“For us, the priority will certainly be to push forward the reforms launched within the framework of this international forum, but with special attention to energy security and price affordability for Kosovo and other Community countries”, she said in a live broadcast from Vienna to RTK Live.

Within this meeting, the Council of Ministers approved the case against Serbia, who blocked the energy interconnection with the Republic of Kosovo.

“This blockade, which has continued for more than five years, has caused direct negative consequences on the functioning of Kosovo’s energy system, increasing the network load and transmission costs through alternative lines with Montenegro, North Macedonia and the Republic of Albania”, the Minister further said.

Hence, Serbia is obliged to enable the use of this line for cross-border electricity trade, no later than 1 July 2026. This is expected to contribute to improving energy security, reducing cross-border capacity costs and, therefore, stabilizing tariffs for consumers.

During the meeting, the Ministers of the Member States also discussed issues of strategic importance for the energy sector, including energy security, regional market integration and recent developments within the Energy Community, emphasizing the importance of respecting the principles of cooperation and the functioning of the free energy market.
