Kosovo successfully concludes the deadline for submitting bids for the 100MW solar auction – 6 bids received
Prishtina, 31.01.2024 – The Government of Kosovo is proud to announce the conclusion of its first solar auction on 31 January, providing a unique opportunity for investors to harness the country’s considerable renewable energy resources.
Kosovo received 6 bids, and can also receive others by mail by 3 February, when the names of the companies that have submitted bids will be made public.
The auction process has been open and transparent, ensuring equal conditions for all participants. Interested investors have submitted their bids, which the Ministry of Economy will evaluate fairly and professionally in the coming weeks.
The evaluation committee, led by the Ministry of Economy and represented by key institutions, including MESPI, the Energy Regulatory Office and KOSTT, will evaluate bids against minimum financial, professional and technical requirements, as defined in the tender dossier.
Qualified bidders will then proceed to the electronic bidding or “e-auction” process, where they will have the opportunity to reduce their initial price. The bidder submitting the lowest bid price at the end of the “e-auction” will be announced as the winner. This first solar auction is attracting foreign investment and marks a new chapter in Kosovo’s journey towards a sustainable and clean energy future.
In addition to its impact on the energy sector, this solar project will bring many benefits. Local communities will benefit from the opportunity of new job opportunities, skills development and technology transfer.
The 100 MWh solar auction demonstrates the Government’s commitment to competitive and transparent procedures for an energy transition oriented towards consumers in Kosovo.
Furthermore, a more stable and cost-effective electricity supply will support all households and businesses in Kosovo and reduce seasonal dependency on energy imports.
This is expected to be the first of many solar and wind auctions in the future. Kosovo invites investors and developers to join in harnessing the country’s potential for renewable energy and contribute to a sustainable future.
