Kosovo municipalities receive 37 garbage collection trucks
Prishtina, 22.06.2022 – Minister of Economy (ME), Artane Rizvanolli together with the Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (MESP), Liburn Aliu; Minister of Local Government Administration (MLGA), Elbert Krasniqi; German Ambassador to Kosovo, Joern Rohde; representatives of the EU Office in Kosovo; and Mayors and representatives of 23 Municipalities, received 37 trucks for municipalities which have shown better performance in waste management through:
– Improving service provision;
– Increasing financial sustainability; and
– Elimination of around 1000 illegal landfills which pose a risk to the environment and the well-being of citizens.
These trucks, co-financed by the MESP, the European Union and the German Government, concretize the focus of the engagement in the waste management sector, and will greatly assist in waste service and collection.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo aims to increase economic development, which is consequently expected to modernize the means and methods of waste collection; therefore preparation for its management is very important.
In this context, waste management companies play an important role in social and economic development and, consequently, in the overall well-being of society.
The Ministry of Economy is available for MESP, municipalities, and operators to achieve a concrete vision of integrated waste management, starting from its collection and treatment, to its final disposal.
