Kosovo and Germany sign Partnership Declaration on Climate and Energy
Berlin, 20.03.2024 – The Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kosovo, Artane Rizvanolli, the Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, and the German State Minister, Anne Luhrmann, have signed a Joint Declaration aiming to establish a bilateral partnership on climate and energy transition.
This agreement aims to deepen cooperation between our two states on environmental and energy issues, focusing on:
– Net Zero Policy Planning and Implementation of Kosovo’s Law on Climate Change;
– Swift and Just Energy Transition;
– Kosovo’s Participation in International Climate Processes such as UNFCCC and COP;
– Raising awareness about climate change. The Declaration was signed in Berlin during the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024 (BETD).
According to the declaration, Kosovo and Germany reaffirm their strong commitment to advance the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Paris Agreement, and decisions taken at the respective conferences of parties (COP), as well as the Sofia Declaration on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, energy and climate objectives for 2030, adopted by the Ministerial Council of the Energy Community and the Joint Declaration of Intent between the Leaders of the Western Balkans Six and the Federal Republic of Germany on Regional Climate Partnership (“Regional Joint Declaration”), adopted at the Berlin Process Summit in Tirana in October 2023.
The declaration outlines the Objectives, Issues covered by the Partnership, Establishment of dialogue and forms of cooperation, Implementation and management of the Partnership, Resources, and Final provisions of the Declaration.
