Prishtina, 31.10.2024 – In the 2024 Country Report of the European Commission (EC), it is assessed that Kosovo has made notable progress in the energy sector.

The Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Ambassador Aivo Orav, yesterday handed over to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, the “Kosovo 2024 Report”, drafted by the European Commission, which assesses Kosovo’s progress on the path towards integration into the European Union.

The Report has appreciated the achievements of the Republic of Kosovo in the energy sector, particularly the commencement of electricity billing in the northern municipalities of the Republic.

Also, a positive evaluation is given to the cooperation of Kosovo with Albania as the first countries in the Energy Community to have achieved the coupling of energy markets through the operationalization of the Albanian Power Exchange – ALPEX, and increased energy supply security is highlighted.

Regarding renewable energy sources, the Report states that Kosovo has adopted the Law on Renewable Energy Sources and that this law is aligned with the Renewable Energy Directive and sets up a comprehensive market-based support scheme for renewables, which is expected to facilitate energy auctions.

Furthermore, it is particularly emphasized that Kosovo has successfully completed its first solar energy auction, where it is assessed that the process was open, transparent, and well-received by investors.

Regarding energy efficiency subsidies, it is assessed that good progress has been made with efficient measures in the residential and private sectors as part of the energy support financed by the European Union.
