$16 Million of the Compact Program dedicated to workforce training, skill development and inclusion in the Energy Sector

Prishtina, 18.07.2024 – The Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, met with representatives of MCA Kosovo to discuss the JETA Project and plans for the beginning of its implementation, which is part of the Compact Program with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

For the implementation of JETA Project, $16 million have been allocated from the largest energy program with MCC. This project has two main objectives: to promote the training and skill development of young people who can contribute to the energy sector or similar sectors, and to increase the participation of women in the energy sector.

This Project is expected to facilitate the energy transition led by the Government of Kosovo by creating opportunities for the workforce to gain the required skills and simultaneously providing technical assistance to employers in the energy field and in this way, the representation of women in this sector will also be increased.

On this occasion, Minister Rizvanolli emphasized that as we build energy storage capacities on one hand and new energy generation capacities on the other, it is highly important to ensure that we have a skilled and inclusive workforce to successfully implement and maintain these capacities.

She also recalled that the energy sector, our economy, and our society are only as strong as the education and training of our workforce. “They can only be strong and fair if everyone actively contributes with their skills, knowledge, and ideas, but also if they are equally represented and benefit from economic development”.

The JETA Project is part of the MCC Compact Program, which is the most significant energy project through which Kosovo will have energy reserves through batteries with a capacity of 340 MWh. The Compact Program has a total value of $236.7 million, with $202 million being a grant awarded by the U.S. Government and $34.7 million allocated by the Government of Kosovo.
