KOSTT acquires ownership of the land parcel in Sojeva, Ferizaj, designated for the installation of a 90 MWh battery energy storage system
Prishtina, 19.01.2025 – In implementation of the Compact Agreement between the United States of America and the Republic of Kosovo, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Economy, Leonita Shabani Mullarama, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Ferizaj, Lulzim Aliu, and the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission, System and Market Operator (KOSTT), Shaban Neziri, signed today the Contract on the Transfer of Ownership for a land parcel covering an area of 2.34 hectares, located in the village of Sojeva, transferring ownership from the Municipality of Ferizaj to KOSTT. The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project for the needs of KOSTT will be constructed on this site.
The BESS Project for KOSTT is financed by the United States of America through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. The project aims to promote the transition towards clean energy, reduce energy costs, and equip KOSTT with a BESS with a capacity of approximately 45 MW (90 MWh), enabling grid balancing and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources.
The BESS Project for KOSTT will be implemented by Millennium Challenge Account Kosovo, as the entity responsible for the implementation of the Compact Agreement, and upon completion will be transferred to KOSTT for management and operation.
The MCC Compact Agreement, with a total value of USD 236.7 million, of which USD 202 million represents a contribution from the United States of America through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and USD 34.7 million represents a contribution from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, aims to enhance energy security, contribute to poverty reduction, and stimulate economic growth in Kosovo.
The Government of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to the development of the electricity sector by increasing renewable energy generation capacities, modernizing existing generation capacities, and enhancing system flexibility through the deployment of innovative technologies. The BESS Project will represent a major contribution to increasing the reliability of the power system and reducing costs for all consumers.
