Minister Rizvanolli and Minister Balluku signed cooperation agreements in the field of energy

Prishtina, 21.06.2022 – The Minister of Economy of the Republic of Kosovo, Artane Rizvanolli, and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy of the Republic of Albania, Belinda Balluku, signed today two memorandums of intergovernmental cooperation.

The first signed memorandum of cooperation in the energy sector aims to intensify bilateral cooperation in accordance with the strategies of the two countries with a focus on energy exchange, as well as for the first time in the joint energy balance.

Through this memorandum, the public generation operators Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) and Albanian Energy Corporation (KESH) are instructed to cooperate in the exchange and optimization of the electricity portfolio between the two enterprises in order to enable the security of electricity supply for both our countries and overcome the energy crisis as easily as possible.

The second memorandum signed today, that of cooperation on the development of the Vlora LNG terminal, aims to create a framework of cooperation between the two countries, the development of electricity generation capacity from LNG and the re-approximation of our will and readiness for long-term infrastructure planning and coordinated development of the Albania-Kosovo connection, with a focus on improving energy security and reliable energy supply.

Furthering regional cooperation, especially between Kosovo and Albania, remains a high priority for us, in particular when considering the global energy situation that continues to deteriorate, stated Minister Rizvanolli.

She also added that “The furthering and concretization of our cooperation are the key elements for ensuring security of supply, optimizing the electricity portfolio, as well as overcoming the energy crisis as easily as possible.”
